Win this Original Painting
This year Salt Marsh Studio celebrates its 10th anniversary. As a way to thank all our patrons and visitors to the studio, artist Indu Varma is giving away this original painting.
Give a title for this painting
There was a call placed in August, 'Enter to Win' on Face Book and Instagram inviting people to give a title for this painting. The last date to enter was September 1, 2020. Draw will be done after that date.
Why did I create this painting?
When I painted this painting, I was thinking how life throws challenges in front of us. During troubled times home is where we want to be. Home is the safe haven where we can have the support of our family and friends to help us through difficult times. Hence, you see a bird going through dark clouds in the far right corner, looking for safely and security. The rest of the painting evolved as I thought about the colours of support, friendship, hope and joy at the end of turbulent times.
"You use a glass mirror to see your face; you use works of art to see your soul." George Bernard Shaw
It was quite an eye opener for me to see the variety of titles that were given for this painting. That is the beauty of looking at an artwork, particularly one where each and every element of the painting is not defined. Each person saw something different in it and gave the title based on how they connected with their inner feelings, i.e. soul.
For me the most intriguing and satisfying part was that each person saw something different. That's precisely what I wished to see how people will interpret this painting.
The titles ranged from 'Natural Disaster' to 'Raging Storm' to 'Chaos to Serenity is 2020 Vision' to 'Blue Bird Surrounded by Happiness' to 'Solace'. As you can see there was quite a wide range of emotions that the viewers connected with in this painting. For me, as an artist, it's very gratifying.
Thanks for participating
My sincere thanks to each and everyone who took time to look at this painting carefully and put some thought into what it communicated. I am truly grateful to each and everyone who participated in this contest.
And the Winner is...
Of course, there is only one original painting to give away. Hence, there can only be one winner, though I felt that every title is a winner because it connected with the soul of the viewer. In my view, participation is the key. That requires thought and engagement. If you have done that, you are already a winner. In addition, you have been a participant in the 10th anniversary celebration of Salt Marsh Studio.

A precious little angel who lives in my neighbourhood did the draw for me.
The winner of this contest is Sue Amos-Murphy. The title, 'Forest of Wonders'.
Heartiest congratulations to you, Sue Amos-Murphy. "Forest of Wonders' is yours forever.
