The Main Street Baptist Church and the Middle Sackville Baptist church came about due to the presence of a group of 13 Baptist settlers who came from Swansea, Massachusetts.
They landed at Slack's Cove in 1763. Though majority of these returned to Massachusetts, the remaining congregated under the leadership of Joseph Crandall in 1798.
In the early 1800s the Baptists in Middle Sackville and Upper Sackville gathered in small meeting houses.
As the numbers grew, in 1905, the Middle Sackville Baptist Church was erected.
