Boultenhouse Heritage Centre

In 1840 Christopher Boultenhouse constructed a Greek revival style mansion, which became Boultenhouse Heritage Centre in 2006.

In the 1800s the Boultenhouse family played a very prominent role in the ship building era of Sackville.

Christopher Boultenhouse's father, Bedford Boultenhouse was a loyalist who moved to this area in the 1800s. He and his wife, Charlotte lived in Wood Point where they had a small shipyard. He and his sons were all ship builders, with Christopher being the most prolific.

In 1840 Christopher moved his ship building business from Wood Point to Sackville, at the mouth of the Tantramar River close to the present day Via Rail Station.

At peak times in 1850s and 1860s he employed more than a hundred people.

The Boultenhouse family was the leading ship building family that constructed 94 vessels altogether.
