In the past the Family Bible was used for more than religious purposes.
Of course, it was used as a Bible, but it also served a very important purpose of keeping a record of the family history.
Family Bibles were quite popular in 1700s and 1800s. Before the days of census, this was perhaps the only way of keeping records.
Even today, they are a very important part of knowing about genealogy and doing genealogical research.
People would record births, deaths, weddings, and other important events at the back of the family Bible. It would be passed on from one generation to the next.
This hard-bound Bible is on display at the Keillor House Museum.
