Fort Beausejour

Fort Beausejour was built in 1751 by the French to defend themselves against the British in the Beaubassin area.

The construction began in 1750. The site of Fort Beausejour was Aulac Ridge, which was chosen strategically because it overlooks the Cumberland Basin.

The British had constructed Fort Lawrence in 1750.

It was renamed as Fort Cumberland after the British captured it in 1755.

This tile depicts Fort Beausejour, the French Fort, and its surrounding area.

The remnants of this star shaped fort exist today at the National Historic site of Fort Beausejour.
