The first laundromat was established in 1898 by Leslie C. Carey. When it burnt down, the second one was built - on the same location. It is the building that houses the food bank today.
In 1947 the laundromat was sold to Barnhill, Inch and Rand. It was operational till the second building burned, probably sometime in the 60's. This was replaced by the building that is there now (food bank's present location).
The dry cleaning part, was in the upstairs section of the building at first. Later it moved downstairs when the Bembridge family moved in upstairs. George Bembridge ran the boilers.
The laundry was delivered around town by a team of horses and cart which were kept in a barn behind the laundromat. Fred Cole ran this delivery operation.
This information is provided by Nancy Read whose grandfather Lleslie C. Carey was the owner of the the Laundromat until 1947.
