Amos Botsford, a Yale educated lawyer was one of the Loyalists who fled to Nova Scotia in 1782. He held some important positions in the new colony of New Brunswick.
In 1790 he moved from Dorchester Island to Westcock where he built a large Georgian home overlooking the Cumberland Basin. His son, William occupied the house after his father's death.
The province of New Brunswick operated it as a Marine Hospital between 1872 and 1890.
The house was destroyed in a fire in 1945 but the road where it existed is still called the 'Old Hospital Loop Road'.
