Owen's Art Gallery is Canada's oldest university art gallery. For this, and for its Beaux-Arts classical style it is designated as a Local Historic Place.
This 19th century building, designed by a famous Canadian architect, Edmund Burke, opened its doors to the public in 1895.
It was designed to accommodate the Ladies College Fine Arts classes as well as house 300 works of art and statuary acquired by Mount Allison in 1893.
Today the gallery has a collection of more than 4000 works from 19th century to 21st century. It is recognized Canada wide for its exhibition, publishing, and fine arts programs.
It has played a key role in the teaching and promotion of Fine Arts at Mount Allison University. It has also served the Town of Sackville and the neighbouring communities with a world class art gallery.
