A sabot is a wooden work shoe hollowed out from a single block of wood. It is like a clog from France.

It was also popular in some of the surrounding countries also, such as, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

From the 16th to the 19th century, during the time of Industrial Revolution, these clogs were associated with the lower class people, i.e. the working class people.

In Acadia sabots were traditionally worn by Acadian peasants. The Acadian women also wore sabots to protect their feet from dirt and dust of the marshy soil.
